What is a radio drama?
A radio drama is a dramatized, purely acoustic performance, broadcast on radio or published on audio media such as tape or CD. With no visual components, radio drama depends dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and story.
Initial Ideas
Our pieces could be 15 minutes long all together, with a group of three our pieces individually would be five minutes each. During one of our production meetings we came up with the idea of creating our dramas based on a Noir theme. I wasn't very sure on the chosen theme so we went against the idea. It was then that we got introduced to Raymond Chandler and some of his quotes, I'd never heard of him so I decided to do some research.
Focusing on Raymond Chandler's quotes, an idea was brought to the table to do our five minute pieces on the same Raymond Chandler quote. The problem after was to agree on the quote we wanted to use, when the quote was chosen we'd all do a different piece based on the same quote.
A few of my favoured quotes:
The quote we chose:
The Creation
To learn how to write a script we were advised to look on the BBC Writers room, I found this very helpful towards writing my script.
One script that really interested me was by writer, Richard Monks and his radio drama 'Lying Undiscovered'. I really like the outline of the story, I reckon I could go in a similar direction with my radio drama while still keeping to the chosen Raymond Chandler quote, 'The streets were dark with something more than night'.
Radio 4 Schedule
The radio drama I'll be listening to will be Helen Dunmore's 'The Betrayal'.

Background Music
My radio drama fits into the thriller genre so I'll need some dark, suspenseful background music to add atmosphere to it. I had a look on a few royalty free websites and found some interesting music.
Unseen Horrors
Come Play With Me
Bent And Broken
Night Of Chaos
